The CDP was started during August 2006 to help support the community. Volunteers are involved in a number of activities while at CDP. Their work involves getting to the rural communities and gathering information on needy cases: orphans, widows, the elderly, the disabled, HIV/ AIDS victims and the very poor.
Volunteers will join the CDP staff in the community and participate in trainings on micro-finance, food security, public health and environmental conservation, and new to the programme is sport. Volunteers are also expected to accompany CDP staff visiting learning and public institutions to carry out HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns. This activity may require psychological counselling sessions. Volunteers will also be involved in practical work like building mud brick houses for widows, orphans, the elderly and the poor.
The workt may also consist of:
- Participation in projects such as brick making.
- Visiting community groups to work together on CDP organised programmes.
- Office-based duties of data entry, analysis, record keeping and administration.
- Agricultural programmes with farmers
- Health care programmes, either in groups or with individuals helping people with HIV and AIDS.
- Sport
Volunteers are expected to work from 9am until 4pm, five days a week Monday to Friday, one of these days to be in the office and the rest to be field work.
Volunteers are housed in the project building's guest wing in single rooms or in a larger room shared with another volunteer. The facility is located in Kiminini Township.
