Medical: The Medical Care Project offers the opportunity to students preparing for a career in medicine, and those already qualified, to broaden their medical experience by observing and becoming involved in the daily routines of hospitals and clinics, whilst sharing their knowledge and experience with management, staff and patients. The Project also offers the opportunity for volunteers without medical training or experience to assist in the various non-medical departments of the hospital or clinic.
Dentist: Bolivia is a Third-World Country, the poorest in South America, and the standards of Dental Hygiene, together with the availability and quality of treatment, fall far short of those experienced in most other countries.
However, there is a growing awareness of the importance of Dentistry, and several Universities now offer Degree Courses to Students, and Refresher Seminars to qualified Dentists. Many have their own Surgeries and Laboratories, allowing practical experience to be combined with lectures and written materials.
Childrens home: There are over 170 Orphanages, Children’s Homes and Care Centres in Cochabamba. Most are privately run, with no external funding, relying on donations of clothing, food and equipment.
Volunteers work as assistants, giving urgently needed practical help and support to the Staff, in the daily operation of the Centre, and caring for those who use it.
Environmental programme: The population of Cochabamba is increasing rapidly, and there is now clear evidence of deterioration in the natural surroundings. You will be working with Local Government Agencies & Partners to make a lasting contribution to the ecosystem and general environment in Cochabamba, generate a sense of environmental awareness, and encourage members of the Community to become active in achieving environmental stability for the present, and sustainability for the future.
Teachers assistant: A working knowledge of the English Language is seen by many to be essential in achieving success at School, University, and in later life.
Your Placement will give you the opportunity to assist Full-Time Staff, teaching English as a Second Language to a wide age-range of Students. You may be helping Children take their first steps in learning English, or you could be sitting in on a Conversation Group for Mature Students at University.
Sports Programme: The Sports Coaching Projects works with a variety of schools and institutions, to provide a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities to children from deprived backgrounds that would otherwise not have the opportunity to become involved.
The Projects are designed not only to nurture children’s sporting talents, but also to encourage them to develop self-esteem, social skills and a sense of belonging, through team and individual activities.
Spanish language lessons not necessary for this destination although they can be arraged if desired.
